How to Study Effectively for an Exam
An effective exam plan is not a list of hours you hope to study. It is a short cycle of learning, retrieval, feedback, and review. Start by identifying what the exam covers, then spend most of your time testing what you can actually do.
1. Map the exam before you study
Collect the syllabus, lecture notes, readings, assignments, and any official exam guidance. Make a list of topics and label each one as confident, partly understood, or unclear.
This prevents a common mistake: spending the whole week reviewing the easiest chapter because it feels productive. Give more time to topics that are important and still difficult.
2. Use active recall in every session
